This past weekend we saw the 2017 Italian SUP Surfing Championships for 2017 take place in beautiful Sardinia. Dream Team rider Leo Nika takes a break from the SUP racing after a great 2017 season to have some surfin’ fun.
24 athletes came from across Italy to compete in Sardinia. The competition was located in Capo Mannu, one of the best surf spots Italy has to offer where the waves are bigger and very consistent.
“I just placed 2nd overall in the Italian SUP Championships this weekend. Even if I train only one day before the tournament. I pass all my heats winning and in the semifinals I had a 9.5 and a 7.5 score. In the finals the conditions change a little with the waves was getting bigger and choppy with a lot of wind. I couldn’t close the second manoeuvre.”
Leo surfed the the Pro 7’1 x 24 2016 model and had this to say:
” I really like this board because is similar when I surf with shortboard. I will train to do better next year!!”
